Three Voices

Organhaus Art Space, Huangjueping, district of Chongqing, China — 2010

The images present in this exhibit were sourced from children stickers, while also alluding to marginal representations. The mask is a wrestling mask but also references BDSM practices. The skull was sourced from candy, yet reminds the viewer of Grim fandango and the dance of death. These works explore the relationship of consumer culture to existing images and symbols. They examine how capitalism absorbs signs of the marginalized and others and re-appropriates it to vacate it of its own power and sell it back to its own children, in an act of cannibalism.
